National Road Vehicle Standard (Australian Design Rule 108/00 – Reversing Technologies) 2022
The function of this standard is to specify requirements for reversing technologies to be fitted to light, medium and heavy vehicles, to increase the driver’s awareness or vision of road users behind a vehicle when the vehicle is reversing, and avoid or mitigate the severity of reversing collisions.
APPLICABILITY:
This vehicle standard applies to category MA, MB, MC, MD, ME, NA, NB and NC vehicles, from the dates set out in clauses 1. to 2. and the table under clause 2. below.
1. [1 March 2024] for new model vehicles.
2. [1 March 2026] for all vehicles.
For the purposes of clauses 1., a “new model” is a vehicle model first produced with a ‘Date of Manufacture’ on or after the date prescribed in that clause.
For vehicles equipped with reversing technologies, the technical requirements of the original series of amendments to United Nations Regulation No. 158 – UN REGULATION ON UNIFORM PROVISIONS CONCERNING THE APPROVAL OF DEVICES AND MOTOR VEHICLES WITH REGARD TO THE DRIVER’S AWARENESS OF VULNERABLE ROAD USERS BEHIND VEHICLES WHEN REVERSING.
